-
Fixed visual
problem in context menus with third party extensions that use
icons larger than the standard 16x16 size (e.g. BitZipper)
-
Fixed problem with
Tab Groups and My Documents folder. If you have My Documents
assigned to a tab in a tab group, then selecting that tab now
expands the tree to the correct location (the "virtual" My
Documents rather than the real folder under C:\Documents and
Settings...)
-
Fixed potential
crash in context menus when third-party extensions add extremely
long menu items. Very long menu labels are now automatically
truncated to prevent the menu from being absurdly large.
-
Added "DST
Compensation" option to the Synchronize function. When enabled,
time differences of exactly one hour are ignored to compensate
for different handling of daylight savings time between
FAT/FAT32 and NTFS drives.
-
PDF metadata
(author, subject, title) is now extracted from PDF files and
displayed in the appropriate Lister columns (note that this uses
a new version of pdftext.dll which must be present in the
Viewers sub-directory for this to work)
-
When renaming using
MP3 file information it is now possible to pad the "tracks"
field with leading zeroes if desired. e.g., {mp3track|#2} would
pad the track field to two digits.
-
Added a link to the
"Getting to know Directory Opus" online tutorial to the default
Help menu, and also to the Splash screen.
-
Modified the
behavior of the "Ignore seconds" option in the Synchronize
function. This option now takes into account times which have
"rolled over" to the next minute because of file system
peculiarities (e.g. 20:44:59 -> 20:45:00).
-
Fixed problem with
PicaView thumbnails in context menu introduced in minor update.
-
Modified the copy
function to update progress display less often, particularly on
large files.
-
Thumbnails can now
be displayed for .otf font files.

Fixed problem with
rename function incorrectly deselecting files that didn't match
the rename pattern.

Fixed a crash that
could occur if you attempted to convert an image to a PNG file
within a corrupt zip file.
-
Added support for
namespace extensions that are initialized on folder junction
points (e.g. AudioManage)
-
Toolbar fields no
longer lose input focus when the alt key is pressed and released
(this is to support Swedish users who need to use the alt key to
type a backslash).
-
Fixed a problem
with Go NEWTAB=findexisting which stopped this command from
working on subsequent folders if a prior folder was already open
in a tab.
-
Fixed a crash when rotating GIF images to the
right (using the animgif plugin)
-
FTP Changes:
* Fixed anomaly
for small files on fast connections which could result in 0 byte
files.
* FTP: Fixed Login to
Virgin (upload.virgin.net) not following RFC 859 standards.
* Fixed crash
when connecting to a new SFTP sites from an existing SFTP site.
* Updated
handling of file times to extract full dates from file
attributes instead of using traditional FTP UNIX LS file times.
Unix FTP times only accurate for current year. Opus now displays
times accurate to HH:MM 1/1/1970. Uploaded files now also now
preserve the Access and Modified file times.
* Fixed
problem in local Lister display of uploaded file times and time
zones.
* Fixed
problem with setting timestamps recursively on folders.
-
Added a warning
note about Zone Alarm to registration wizard. (See FAQ on
the DOpus Resource Centre for details.
Changes 8.2.0.2 October 31, 2005
-
Fixed a crash in
the Unicode version when displaying the Description of Zip files
when the description was more than 4096 characters long.
-
With the "Copy file
descriptions" option enabled, moving a folder containing files
with descriptions to another physical device would fail to move
the descript.ion file, which would then trigger an error
when attempting to remove the original folder.
-
The /desktop
alias was broken, going to the user's profile desktop folder
rather than the virtual folder.
-
Column widths
specified in Favorite Formats were being ignored.
-
The space
used/space free display in the status bar did not correctly
identify drives mounted on folders on other drives (and so
displayed the space for the host drive rather than the actual
drive)
Version 8.2 changes notes
GPSoftware's policy of continual ongoing development saw the
release of Version 8.2 in mid-2005. This was a major update
supplied free for all registered users of Directory Opus 8.x. It
added a number of new features plus many smaller changes and bug fixes
in this release. Full details of the changes are available in the
Opus 82 Changes PDF document
available here.
In summary, the major new features include:
- New File Filter Control
There is a new File Filter control for Opus toolbars. The File
Filter Field is similar to the Show Files and associated fields,
but much more powerful. It has a drop-down menu that lets you
change its behavior on-the-fly – you can choose from Files Only,
Folders Only, or Both Files & Folders. You can also select Show
or Hide on-the-fly. Also it supports Real Time Filtering, where
the list is updated in real time as the filter is edited, as
well as Partial Match.
- Dynamic Thumbnail Resizing
Opus now supports dynamic thumbnail resizing. When enabled, it
allows you to resize thumbnails displayed in the current Lister
on-the-fly, without the thumbnails having to be regenerated. A
double-click on the thumbnail size slider resets the thumbnails
to the default size set in Preferences.
- Rename
The Advanced Rename dialog now lets you rename files using meta
data information from the files themselves. It is possible to
use any of the Lister information fields as input for the Rename
routine – for example, file date, mp3 tag information, EXIF
tags, etc. For example, you could rename MP3 files using their
tags similar to {mp3album} - {mp3artist} - {mp3title}.mp3.
- Navigation Lock
When the new Navigation Lock is enabled in a dual-display
Lister, navigation that takes place in one file display
(double-click, parent, back, forwards) is also mirrored if
possible in the second file display. For example,
double-clicking a sub-folder in the left file display would also
enter that sub-folder in the right file display if a sub-folder
of the same name exists there. The same applies to Up, Back and
Forwards.
- Favorites
The Favorites list in Preferences now supports right-click to
display a context menu for entries. It is now also possible to
assign hotkeys to Favorite entries, using the Key button in the
Preferences editor. Pressing an assigned hotkey reads the folder
into the current source file display.
- New Lister columns
There is a new Size On Disk column to display the actual disk
space used by a file or folder. This is particularly useful with
compressed files and folders. This column is available as Auto,
Bytes or KB (same as other size fields).
- Inline rename
Pressing F2 when in inline rename mode now cycles between
selection of the name, the extension and all (equivalent to
pressing Ctrl-N, Ctrl-E and Ctrl-A). If file extensions are
hidden in the Lister, pressing Ctrl-E in inline rename now
reveals the hidden extension allowing it to be modified.
- Sorting
When sorting by multiple columns you can now set a different
sort direction for each field - for example, sort by modified
date forwards and size in reverse. When in multi-column sort
mode an additional sort arrow is displayed at the left of the
column header – this allows you to control the “global” reverse
state.
You can now configure the default sort direction for each Lister
field and it is now possible to specify a list of filename
prefixes that are ignored when sorting alphabetically.
Previous versions: New Features and Changes
summary for version 8.1
In summary, the major new features include:
- Unicode Support
Directory Opus now has full Unicode support. Unicode is only
supported for the later Windows Operating systems for Windows NT/2000/XP
and above. Unicode allows Directory Opus to handle files and folder
names containing non-Western characters.
Two versions of Directory Opus will now be offered, Unicode and
ANSI. Although we have no benchmarks comparing the performance of
the different versions, the ANSI version may be faster and will
certainly use less memory than the Unicode version – therefore,
if you have no need for Unicode, we recommend that you should use
the standard ANSI version.
- New Folder Tabs
There is now a set of Folder Tabs attached to each file display
(so in a dual-display Lister there are two sets of tabs). By default
the tabs are always visible, even when there is only one tab open,
but a Preferences setting lets you hide the tabs until they are
needed.
- Support for Google Desktop Search
If you have the Google Desktop Search tool installed, this is
now integrated into the Directory Opus Find tool. If GDS is present
a third tab will be added to the Find dialog letting you access
the Google search. The results are displayed in the Find dialog
or in a Lister as a collection as normal.
- New Status Bar bar graphs
- FTP New Features
* Added full support for setting remote date of uploaded files (MDTM)
for SSH.
* Added support for remote file names which are illegal under Windows,
containing characters such as colon ':’ (for example on Linux systems).
Now, Opus will display these in the FTP Lister and copy them by
replacing the illegal character(s) with a hyphen '-'.
* Added support for non-routable addresses in Passive connections.
Opus will now connect to servers running behind NAT firewalls which
return addresses such as 192.168.0.x and other non-routable addresses
by assuming connections to the actual site address.
